When the first letter to the church in Thessalonica was delivered, they were encountering serious spiritual warfare for their faith. There was great persecution and great suffering for Jesus Christ's sake.
Some of the Christians had been led to believe that the Rapture had past, and they were living in the "Day of the Lord" and Great Tribulation.
The Apostle Paul was moved by the Holy Ghost to write them a second letter to provide clear teaching concerning the events that will occur soon prior to and during the Lord's return.
