1. Separated unto the Gospel

May 7, 2017    Romans 1:1

Today, we will introduce the book of Romans. My prayer is that the holy words of this blessed book through the Spirit of the living God would change us forever for God’s glory and for the sake of the GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ! Before we begin our verse by verse exposition, it is always important to get the context for the book. Rome was the recognized metropolis of the entire WORLD. It was at the height of greatness with a population of approx. 3 million people. Rome was unparalleled in luxury, wealth, and debauchery. And, it would become the seat of the synagogue of Satan – Rev. 2 and 3. This is the greatest and most complete book in the entire Bible concerning Christian doctrine. The book of Romans is the believer’s absolute AUTHORITY detailing the doctrines of salvation, justification by faith, sanctification, adoption, judgment, identification with Christ, the relationship between Israel and the church in God’s eternal plan, the Christian’s victory over the flesh, our responsibilities toward other believers, and our relationship to our earthly government. Romans is perfectly placed between Acts (early church history) and the other church epistles as our administrative handbook to govern our church DOCTRINE. It stands on the threshold of the church epistles as first!
